Our Mission
“The words that we see in the stairway of Mother house (MC Sisters in Calcutta): ‘I Thirst’ on the Cross and the words below the Cross: ‘I quench, I satiate’ … this dialogue between God and ourselves in Jesus Crucified was (Mother Teresa’s) entire life lived out, living the mystery of Calvary in some of its most theologically profound depths, but at the same time in the most simple, practical way in the poverty of the Eucharist and the Poor.”
— Fr. Joseph Langford, MC, cofounder with St. Teresa of Calcutta of the MC Fathers, Final Seminar – September 2010
“Christ hangs before us on the Cross crying out ‘I Thirst’.”
— Mother Teresa
As MC Fathers, we are called into the mystical darkness of Good Friday afternoon to stand near Our Blessed Mother and St. Teresa of Calcutta beneath the Cross of Jesus. Today He cries out to our wounded hearts and the suffering hearts of the poorest of the poor the words, ‘I thirst’ (Jn.19:28).
Every Missionary of Charity must encounter the Thirst of Jesus each day before going out in search of the poor. Jesus is speaking to me in the poverty of my interior life and asking me to search for His suffering face in those who are most in need. It is not a cliché to say that I am poor because every human heart has need of God and Jesus thirsts for me – for my love, my hurts, my self-gift, my holiness, and my service to others.
“He spoke of His Infinite Thirst for love – for souls.” — Mother Teresa
“Have you seen with the eyes of your soul how He looks at you with love? Do you really know the living Jesus – not from books, but from being with Him in your heart? Have you heard the loving words He speaks to you?”
— Mother Teresa
These words, ‘I Thirst’, reveal the fire of God’s love for me and the spirituality of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. When she experienced the Thirst of Jesus it set her heart on fire and she went into immediate action! She desired to give Jesus to drink…
“Tell him often ‘I love you’ by caring for all the unwanted, unloved, lonely … all the poor. This is how I quench the Thirst of Jesus for others, by giving Him love in action. By each little action done for the sick and the dying I quench the Thirst of Jesus for love.”“He spoke of His Infinite Thirst for love – for souls.” — Mother Teresa
Service to those in need is the way in which we put our love into action each day. Through our priestly ministry we seek to bring the poor to the Living Waters of the Spirit in order to heal their wounds and touch their hearts. Charity is a language that every heart can understand and embrace!
